Google Japan

September 18, 2008 by jp

Google and Japan just don’t mix, I was surprised myself when I read that Google has a weakness and hasn’t totally dominated the World Wide Web - despite public opinions and belief. Yahoo currently owns 76% of the search volume within Japan, 76% of the 360 Billion page views (for 2007). Big numbers in comparison to other popular nations and countries, for example Japan’s estimated value on the web is 10% of the total revenue and that includes advertising, the total (estimated) value of Japan is 5.7 Billion dollars and in terms of web population Japan has the same amount of surfers as the UK and Germany combined which equals a lazy 94 million web users.

Google will not tackle this issue head on, instead they intend to poach the population through means of mobile devices, the mobile device users are worth as much as the desktop population and the numbers of users are over 100 million. There are several areas in which Google will tackle the mobile population and this can include sponsoring or even joining partnerships with the current dominant forces and related companies.

Google has incorporated the use of Docomo and KDDI au, currently there are over 74 million users on these two providers alone, the implementation of Googlization within these mobile devices will encourage the use of Google obviously - whether or not the subscribers will embrace these Google is another dilemma.
