One-way Linking Strategies
October 29, 2008 by jp
Incoming links are great for your website and can help you increase your search engine ranking. But you need to make sure you have the “right kind” of incoming links. Although reciprocal links are good, one-way links are better.
The old way of linking had everyone exchanging links. Search engines have become more intelligent now and they want to find links that are based on the quality, content, and integrity of a site. That is most often indicated by a one-way link. Since you have no reciprocal link, the search engines assume that the linking site found you valuable for reasons other than ‘reciprocating’.
So, how do you get other sites to link to you without asking them? It’s all about unique, fresh, and valuable content! There is nothing more important than valuable, dynamic content. When your content boosts the value of other websites, they are excited to link to your site.
Try some of these ideas to attract incoming links and increase your SE ranking:
-
Update your website or blog frequently. Stale, static content doesn’t do much for your site. Include a new blog post 3-5 times each week and before you know it, you’ll have a large following of readers and potential customers. Add new content, articles, reviews, and interactive content to your website weekly to attract authority sites and high quality websites.
-
Make it easy for people to know when you’ve updated your site. Use an RSS feed to alert them about new content and give them a quick briefing of what’s included. This can make your website go viral if it’s picked up by the right people and websites.
-
Talk about the industry or niche market. Include updated information, statistics, studies, or information that promotes the website theme and keeps people current in a particular area of expertise. They’ll look to you frequently for updates.
-
Include videos or other media. Demonstrate how something works or provide valuable information. Use media for humor that also includes a marketing message. Make the site interesting with various types of media.
-
Include fresh, interesting graphics or pictures. Don’t overdo it though – search engines only read words and content. But pictures and graphics are interesting to people and other websites will link to you if they find high quality graphics and photos.
-
Don’t forget about social networking sites – creating relationships with people there can be a great way to get links.
-
Check out the niche directories relevant to your website theme. Get yourself listed on the directory. This is not as effective as some of the other ideas, but it’s worth getting listed to see.
Don’t just settle for one or two ways to attract incoming links. Try several and see what works best. Before you know it, you’ll have many one-way incoming links to boost your SE ranking.
